Sarah works mainly in stone and clay - preferably what surrounds her - whether that is the sand and limestone from her home in Yorkshire or the marble and alabaster when she travels to Italy. Her background is in figurative sculpture and the traditional method of learning "to see" through the study of the life model. Sarah is inspired by nature and finds it a constant source of enrichment and nourishment for her work.
The influences of the sculptor Alan Thornhill and past modern masters such as Constantin Brancusi have helped shape her thoughts on sculpture and how she wants to pursue her ideas.
"....the only true art will come from what you find inside yourself"- Brancusi.
"....what is real is not the external form, but the essence of things. Starting from this truth it is impossible for anyone to express anything essentially real by imitating exterior surface" - Brancusi
